What goes wrong with generic mounts
Suction cups need a windscreen you can reach and lose grip as the glass heats and cools. Vent clips hang the phone on a louvre that was not designed to carry it and work loose on rough roads. Adhesive pads need a flat, smooth surface and leave residue when they come off. All three are a compromise because they were drawn for no interior in particular.
What we built for the Defender
A vehicle-specific base in sintered nylon that sits in the factory ashtray of the Land Rover Defender (1987-2006). Low and compact. Nothing bolted on, nothing that does not belong in a classic Defender. No drilling, no adhesive, no tools, reversible in 60 seconds.
The phone sits horizontally only. Landscape, for navigation. Portrait is not possible. A ball joint with a knurled nut lets you set the angle and lock it.
Check that your ashtray matches the product photos before ordering.
Which variant to choose
MagSafe kit. Mount plus a MagSafe-compatible Qi2 wireless charger, up to 15 W. iPhone 12 and newer, or any Android phone with a MagSafe-compatible case. Cases up to 3 mm.
Quad Lock adapter. A sintered nylon adapter we make in-house that fits your existing Quad Lock MAG wireless charging head. The head and case are sold separately by Quad Lock.
RAM X-Grip cradle. A spring-loaded 4-jaw cradle for any phone 60 to 95 mm wide, with or without a case. No magnets and no wireless charging, the most secure hold for rough tracks.

Frequently asked questions
Does it need drilling or glue?
No. The base is vehicle-specific and needs no drilling, no adhesive and no tools. It is reversible in 60 seconds.

Yes. The ball joint lets you tilt the phone within its range, and the knurled nut gives more grip when you tighten it to lock the position.
Can the phone sit in portrait?
No. This mount is landscape only, by design.
Where does the power come from?
The MagSafe charger runs on USB-C. A USB-C PD source of 30 W or more gives full speed, for example our 30W Mini USB-C Car Charger.
